Our Sovereign debt practice was established to meet client’s needs in the area of debt management and has evolved as a result of our international thinking and the needs of our clients. The Covid-19 pandemic and the international geo-political movements have resulted in a new shift and focus on international capital and the role of domestic credit. At the same time the emerging world of crypto-currencies and climate change based financing have resulted in a more complex economy.
Our team advises on a broad spectrum of sovereign debt matters with particular emphasis on Projects and Asset Finance, Litigation and Arbitration, Financial services Regulation and Anti-Money Laundering. We have experience with EPC contracts and PPA agreements in the energy sector and understand issues dealing with financing models, currency risks and energy tariff issues.
Our litigation and Arbitration regularly advise state owned enterprises on debt related issues in the local courts and arbitral tribunals. The financial regulatory advisory team have experience in bank regulatory regimes, bank recovery, insurance and pensions regulatory consultations with regulators. We also work with the government agency on anti-money laundering related issues. Our clientele includes banks, government authorities, state owned enterprises, financial service regulators and local authorities.
